Do you repair books?

Yes we do, but on a limited basis these days. Much of our practice has been in repair work, and informed by 20+ years in the book and paper conservation fields. If you’ve got a book that needs attention, send a message through the website, and if possible send a photo or two of the book in question, highlighting the broken bits. We’ll let you know if it’s a good fit for our skill set, and what it might cost for the repair. We can also recommend other talented bookbinders who specialize in book repair.

Do you do custom bookbinding work?

Yes we do. Strong Arm Bindery is very well-versed in the production of modern and historic bindings. We specialize in custom box-making and protective enclosures, as well as edition work. Box-making refers to drop-spine or clamshell boxes and slip cases. Edition work refers to binding multiple copies of the same printed text block. We don’t print the books, but we bind them and box them.

Do you do custom letterpress print work?

Yes we do, within reason. We have a robust collection of metal and wood type, and the capacity for custom design work with photopolymer plates. With enough lead time, Strong Arm Bindery can print your invitations, holiday cards, favorite poems, stationery, business cards, and many other forms of ephemera. We’re happiest when designing, binding, and printing stationery.
